Forrest did WHAT?!?!

Disclaimer: This post may contain graphic depictions of daily life at the Graf house, which may not be suitable for some viewers/readers.....or anybody else in their right mind. Viewer discretion is advised! Don't say I didn't warn you.

I began working on the post before leaving for the QuadMommas 2009 trip. It's a bit outdated, but so entertaining that I decided to go ahead and post it anyway. Enjoy!

So, a couple of Fridays ago while Aunt Lainie was over, we were busy getting the kids dressed and ready to go to the Wichita Riverfest Sundown Parade (yep, that time of year has come and gone again). I had everyone's clothes/shoes/accessories sitting out. Aunt Lainie grabbed one of the kids to dress and I snagged Forrest. While I was dressing him, I noticed he put something small in his mouth. I remember thinking, "Oh, he probably just found a stale Cheerio under the couch that he's been hoarding in his chubby little fingers until now." I decided to do a quick finger sweep of his mouth to make sure.....which must have triggered him to do the "hurry up and swallow it or it'll get taken away" response. Bad move on my part. I should know to NEVER do a blind finger sweep on a child! Well, his eyes got wide and he started choking. Then his face turned red and I realized that the criss-crossed barrettes I had laid out for Danna's hair were no where to be found. Insert minor freak-out here.

This is only an example of the barrettes that were laid out for Danna. The actual ones were pink! But they were criss-crossed just like this.

Forrest was able to painfully swallow them down and then started crying. Ahhhhhh great. I've seen enough "foreign body" ingestions in the ER to know it was just a waiting game now. No magnets, no batteries, no problems. I broke it to Billy that we'd be needing to do some dumpster diving with Forrest's diapers until he passed Danna's hair pretties. Let's just say he was less than thrilled. Thank goodness for latex gloves!

To make a long story short, the barrettes finally made a reappearance after about 4 days (I was starting to sweat a little by the 3rd day of digging without finding the hidden treasures). Now if you know me at all, you would not be surprised in the least that I felt the need to take a picture....for the simple fact of being able to hold this over Forrest's head when he turns 16. It's just who I am.

I debated back and forth whether or not this was blog-suitable. Then I realized that this is OUR blog and OUR babies' book and I HAVE to record all this for posterity's sake! So, THIS is what barrettes look like after spending 4 days in an 18 months old's digestive tract.

Fortunately for Forrest, they un-crossed themselves somewhere on the ride down and out. Needless to say, Danna is now 2 pink barrettes short of a full arsenal.

And Forrest is (blue) BERRY happy about that! Have a great day!

OMG. Poor baby. My brother swallowed everything when he was a baby. Thankfully, he mostly only found bugs, but...

I really have no idea how they crossed, but I'm sure he's really glad they did.

HAHAHA, that's hilarious!! Gemma has those same barrettes, hasn't tried eating them yet though. Luckily she's been the type who hands stuff to me instead of putting it in her mouth typically. Ummm, thanks for all the details. I'm glad he was OK and that it didn't require any further, errr, interventions.

Bet they were worse going in than coming out... Poor Forrest. I'm so glad he made it through the ordeal okay. (How much fun you are going to have sharing this story with his first girlfriend someday!)

Ack!! Forrest, why in the world would you eat those little guy? Especially knowing Mom's going to take pics and save those to show your future prom date (HA! oh yeah! :D ) All I have to say is "ouch!" and "yuck!" Oh, and first I looked at the pics before reading, saw the quarter and thought "oh no! he ate THAT?!" Turned out to be much worse than I thought ;)

Poor little guy (and Mom)! Thank goodness they finally "emerged." Although, I don't think Danna will be happy with him any more..."man! my hair clips! FORREST!!!!!!!" ;)

P.S. FYI, Suzan almost ate a roach on me one day. Major BLECH! She's my little lint and small-things-to-eat finder ;)

you are very fortunate that they passed intact. our son swallowed a barrette clip once, (what is it with little boys and their sisters hair clips?!), but we panicked and took him straight to the ER. Good thing we did, as it became lodged in his colon and created a small tear that needed to be repaired surgically! Talk about stress! I am glad we didnt decide to wait it out for it to pass on its own, the doc said we were lucky as he could have died! GLad your Forest boy is okay!

Only you, Moni! I was worried when I first started reading and then I started laughing because I knew what was gonna happen! I'm glad he pooped them out! What a picture for him to have! He'll never live this one down, for sure! Good for you for staying calm. Must be the nurse in you....I remember your stories and I guess this isn't so bad! LOL!

HAHAHA... Love it! I started reading this post and stopped in the middle and thought "Oh no she didn't" but yes, you did.... the poop was a little gross, but I guess Forrest may one day need the proof that he did in fact eat barrettes at one time. Love you guys!

I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. Silly Forrest...he is going to love this later. I did hear from Dr. Chavez and he wanted me to put Emma on the Pulmicort daily. It seems like if I give her about a week's worth when she gets sick, she is fine after that. I can't get her to sit still to do it each day. She seems to be a lot better the last two or three months or so. We are going to be at the zoo on Thursday at 10:00. I like to just go for a few hours and get out of the house. I will go crazy if I don't. We only stay for a few hours and then come home and take a GOOD nap. If you could meet us there we would love to see you.

this is just too funny and to be honest with you, I am surprise that it did not happen at my house. They seriously will put anything in their mouths. Oh and the picture makes it perfect.
